Winter 2013 Appeal

Keeping Humanity Warm This Winter

Winter is approaching fast in war-torn Syria, Burma, Gaza, Somalia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Philippines with potentially fatal consequences for vulnerable families and those living in make shift conditions without adequate shelter, bedding or warm clothes. Families are already fragile from the stress associated with conflict and displacement. Many are to face the torrential rains and sub-zero temperatures in the forth coming winter months.

Thousands of families are desperately need of warm clothes, blankets and food supplies to protect them from the freezing winter temperatures.

Summer is easy to survive in conflict and emergency zones but winter is a serious threat for ill equipped families in the icy weather. People living in temporary shelters with no warm cloths and blankets are less likely to be able to escape winter although they survived conflicts bombs and natural disasters.

HOW YOUR DONATIONS COULD HELP

£15 could help to buy a blanket, warm clothes, socks, hat and scarve.
£20 towards the cost of food pack for a family for winter season

Global Vision Aid Launch

AMWT launches ‘Global Vision Aid’ for blindness

October 30, 2013

LAHORE (PR) - Al Mustafa Welfare Trust (AMWT), a worldwide charity organisation based in UK, has launched ‘Global Vision Aid’ (GVA) project for blindness. During this campaign AMWT would arrange free eye screening facilities and operate cataract surgeries through eye camps, eye clinics and medical centers. This campaign has launched from Pakistan and later it would be introduced in Asia, Africa and Middle East countries.
Chairman Al Mustafa Abdul Razzaq Sajid said in a statement that Trust would operate 10,000 cataract surgeries and screening 100,000 eye patients in next year. He said under Global Vision Aid free eye camps are being organized in backward and far-flung areas of Pakistan.

He further said that recently Trust has organised free eye camps in Kallar Syedan district Rawalpindi, Khanewal, Jhelum, Lahore, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Shorkot and different parts of Kashmir. A ten-day free eye camp would continue from October 25 to November 3 at Basic Health Centre Chak 14 of district Chiniot where more than 400 cataract surgeries would be conducted. This eye camp campaign would continue from October to December 2013.

Sajid said that according to a world estimate visually impaired people were 285 million, of whom 39 million are blinds. The major reasons of blindness are damage of retina caused by complications of diabetes, age-related muscular degeneration (AMD), a medical condition which usually affects older adults and results in loss of vision. Corneal opacities, a serious vision problem and cataract, clouding of lens inside the eye, are most common causes of blindness, conventionally treated by surgery. Glaucoma was another serious threat in which the optic nerve was damaged in a characteristics pattern. It was also called silent thief of sight because loss of vision often occurs gradually over a long period of time. Once a lost vision could not normally be recovered, he added. So treatment was aimed at preventing further loss. Trachoma, he said, also called granular conjunctivitis leading cause of infectious blindness in the world, he concluded.

The Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) said, 'The best among you are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it to others (Bukhari) £15 a month or just 50p a day can help a poor student memorize the Qur'an. This is one to one sponsorship where you are updated on a regular basis about the child's progress.

Ramadan 2013 Target:

Al-Mustafa Welfare Trust wants to raise funds to help sponsor 30 Hafiz-e-Quran this Ramadan.

#supportachildhifz

Cleft Surgery:

Children with cleft lip and palate are likely to face bullying or teasing. Sufferers with cleft lip or palate are less likely than non-affected peers to marry. In Uganda babies with cleft are called 'Ajok' which means sadly means 'cursed by God' In many parts of the world babies with cleft are killed or abandoned after birth.

Every year more than 170,000 children are born globally with clefts.

Abdul's Story:

Abdul Basit was borne with Cleft palates, unlike normal children he was unable to eat and smile. He had cleft surgery at our hospital and now looks like a normal baby.

With generous support from donors like yourself we are able to carry out this free surgery which costs just £150 to help children like Abdul Basit smile.

It cost just £150 to give Abdul his smile back.

Ramadan 2013 Target:

This Ramadan we aim to generate funds to carry out 100 Cleft Surgeries.

By donating the amounts below we can achieve our target!

£150 for one cleft surgery

£300 for two cleft surgeries

£600 for four cleft surgeries

£750 for five cleft surgeries

£900 for for six cleft surgeries

Over 100,000 Rohingya from Burma are displaced, thousands of their Mosques and homes have been burnt, hundreds killed, women dishonored and children killed

The Burmese Rohingya Muslim's are 15 recognized as one of the world's most persecuted minorities, stateless and living in constant fear. Living in make-shift camps on the border between Burma and Bangladesh, they are in desperate need of food, shelter and medical aid.

The AMWT team visited Burma to supervise the delivery of aid first hand and and met many Muslim refugees living in no-mans land. As was clearly evident, our children and elderly were suffering the most. Please help them.

The Need:

• Food and water
• Clothing and other non-food items
• Medical care

Clean Water:

People are suffering and lives are lost every minute and every day needlessly because of a lack of safe water and sanitation.

With your support we help local communities have easy access to clean water to end this global crisis and transform lives. According to the UNOCHA only 30% of the population in Somalia has access to safe drinking water sources. Our water-well projects are helping people to access clean water at their door step.

Omer and family from Somalia are happy

Omer is 43 years old from Somalia and father of 5 children and living in Belet-Alkarim village where we have installed a well.

"The main problem in the area is lack of clean water. People have to travel very far and our children have to help us to collect water. The whole village and especially children suffer from time to time from various diseases mainly, typhoid, diarrhoea, bilharzias and malaria which are caused by unclean water. I am happy now we have a well near our house."

Over 6000 people are benefiting from this well.

Zain, his cousins and friends having fun

Zain is from Shikarpur,in Sindh, Pakistan, where underground drinking water has been contaminated since the disastrous 2011 floods. We have installed hundreds of hand pumps in flood affected areas to help children like Zain to have access to clean water at their door step.

£6000 can build a water filtration system
£1000 could help install a agricultural tube well
£2500 could help dig a community well
£300 could help install an electric pump
£200 could help fix a water pump

Sponsor an Orphan Girl TV Telethon 21st July 2013 Ramadan TV Sky 192

We are doing a live TV appeal to help support young and vulnerable orphan girls on Ramadan TV Sky Channel 192 on Sunday 21st July with special hosts Rashid Khan from Make Bradford British and Tommy Evans.

Appeal Background:

In the developing world, orphans start life without adequate means of care, learning, protection and nutrition. But orphaned girls are particularly vulnerable.

Many orphaned girls are exploited and find themselves being abused or sold into gangs who mistreat and humiliate them.

Hundreds of thousands of young women are trapped in such appalling and cruel circumstances, simply because they were unfortunate enough to grow up as orphans. In an effort to promote the Third Millennium Development goal of the United Nations which is to promote gender equality and empower women, we are aiming to support as many young orphaned girls as we can this
year.

Orphan sponsorship in Islam The Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) said "I, and the one who looks after an orphan, will be together like this in the next world", then he raised his index and middle fingers together. (Muslim)

How our orphan sponsorship scheme works:

- You can sponsor a child from 94 pence a day.

- We call it one to one sponsorship where you will be the exclusive sponsor and receive full details of the child.

- You have an opportunity to receive occasional reports, pictures and other updates from your sponsored child to get progress on how they are doing.

- You are welcome to write to your sponsored orphan

Orphan Examples:

Zunaira’s Story:

Zunaira’s father Masab Ali passed away with sudden heart failure, she is in class four and wants to be teacher to help support her mother. She has one younger brother and they have no sources of income apart from sponsorship.

Shaid Story:

Shaid Ali is 10 and from Gaza, her father passed way in 2006 when she was just 3 years old. She and her three siblings live with their mother in a small room.

Global Orphan Facts:

- 132 million children are classified as orphans who have lost one of their parents and 13 million who have lost both parents

- Every day 5,760 children become orphans

- Every year 14,050,000 children grow up as orphans and age out of the system

- Every 2.2 Seconds, another orphan child ages out with no family
to belong to and no place to call home

Sponsor a girl like Zunaira or Shaid today:

£28 could provide free food, education and daily maintenance as well as transport and health care for an orphan for one month, £336 will provide the same provisions for a whole year.

Rohingya Muslim Telethon PTV Prime Sky 792

We are doing a live telethon for the Rohingya Muslims on PTV Prime Sky channel 792 from 9.30pm to 1.30am 13th July 2013. Please watch and support this noble cause. We need to raise urgent funds to provide food and water to the displaced muslims.

ROHINGYA MUSLIMS BURMA APPEAL:

The Rohingya’s are a minority Muslim population in Burma. Since 1978 they have suffered from intense religious persecution including physical violence, rape and torture, land confiscation, house demolition and forced labour. Recently, tension in Burma has escalated dramatically and entire villages are being destroyed, leaving an estimated 100,000 people displaced without food, medical supplies or safety. These destitute people are living in very dire conditions in over 60 camps in the Rakhine State.

Conflict between the Rohingya and the ethnic Arakan majority has become progressively worse, so much so that an official state of emergency was declared in this region by the Burmese government in early June. It has been reported that women and children are being abducted from predominantly Muslim villages.

Al Mustafa Welfare Trust is working to reach the Rohingya community with the aid of local organizations on the ground and in bordering countries those are facilitating humanitarian projects.

The recent update as of July 2013 is revealing shocking violations of the Geneva Convention. Pregnant women have been murdered, women and young girls are being constantly raped and abused. In some cases women have been set ablaze and died. These people have been displaced from their homes and brutally being murdered. We urge all of the Muslim Ummah to stand united with the Rohingya Muslims and help support them financially as well as contacting your local MP and show outrage and for the British Government to show compassion and humanity and intervene in this genocide.

Hugh thanks to all attendees & donors at "Gift of Vision Event"

We would like to say a hugh "big" thank you to all the attendees, donors, speakers and performers who supported our "Gift of Vision" charity fundraising event on June 7th 2013. The fundraising event managed to meet our target donation figures and this is all due to the kind and generous donations. We want to say a special thanks to those individuals that donated £10k and £5k respectively. May allah praise your for your kindness towards those who are less fortunate and bestow even more wealth to you all.

The event was so inspiring especially when the blind sister Sayka Hussain donated £5k for blind people living in the developing world. She not only captivated the audience but she also brought tears to all of our audience with her heart-felt pledge. Even our presenters couldn't hold back their tears! Subhanallah - may allah bless Sayka with so much happiness!

And finally we would like to say thank you to the CEO of Islam Channel for all his support as well as the whole team!

Now we look forward to Ramadhan 2013!
